We started Hun Bun in June 2013 with one card table, one rented chafing dish, and a single phone number. Today we cater everything from backyard birthdays to 500-guest weddings, all from our kitchen in Chula Vista.

Where it started

From the family kitchen, for your family table.

Hun Bun Catering Services was born in June of 2013 when our family realized something simple: every great event has great food at the center of it. What started as helping cousins, neighbors, and friends with quinceañeras and birthday parties grew — by word of mouth — into one of San Diego's most-requested multi-cuisine caterers.

What makes us different? We didn't pick one cuisine and stick to it. We learned them all the way they should be learned — by cooking them for hundreds of families, year after year, until the recipes were unforgettable. Mexican from our roots. Soul food from the South. BBQ from years on the smoker. Chinese, Italian, and American comfort food because every guest list has every kind of guest.

Today, you can taste twelve years of that work in every plate we serve.

The Hun Bun Journey

Built one event at a time.

June 2013

Hun Bun is born

Our first official catering job — a 40-person backyard wedding in Chula Vista. We borrowed every chafing dish in the family.

2015

The cuisines expand

What started as Mexican catering grew. Soul food, BBQ, and Italian dishes joined the menu as guests asked for everything from carne asada to pasta at the same event.

2017

First commercial kitchen

We outgrew the home kitchen and moved into our first commercial space, doubling the size of events we could serve.

2019

500-guest wedding milestone

Our largest event yet — a wedding with five different cuisine stations served to over 500 guests. Word traveled fast after that.

2021

Otay Lakes Road home

We settled into our current kitchen at 750 Otay Lakes Rd in Chula Vista — the home base for everything we cook today.

Fresh, never frozen

We prep daily. Meat is sourced from local butchers, produce from San Diego farms, and tortillas are pressed the morning of your event.

Whether your event has 20 people or 500, every plate is made with the same care we'd give our own family table.
